Kingspan Is ‘Fit For Future’ At The City Of Edinburgh Council’S New HQ

Waverley Court, the sustainabilityconscious new administration building for The City of Edinburgh Council is open for business and making efficient use of 7,000m2 of Kooltherm K10 Soffit Board from Kingspan Insulation.

Waverley Court has brought together around 20 Council offices into one building. It will be one of the ‘greenest’ buildings in Edinburgh thanks to a design by architects BDP, incorporating thermally efficient materials, landscaped grass roof terraces, solar panels and water collection systems; and onsite practices allowing a targetbusting 90% of waste from the site to be recycled.

The development, by Morley Fund Management with Miller Construction as the main contractor, is part of the Council’s Fit for Future project, which aims to provide cost-effective, efficient services using sustainable materials and construction processes.

A clever system of exposed concrete soffits stabilizes the internal environment of the building, providing free cooling in summer. The soffits were insulated with Kooltherm K10 Soffit Board from market leading manufacturer of rigid phenolic insulation, Kingspan Insulation.

Gordon Kew, Regional Director, Major Projects, Miller Construction said: "We are very happy with the success of this project and are extremely proud of this new landmark building. Sustainability has always been one of our key areas of focus, not only with the building itself but also throughout the construction process."

Kingspan Kooltherm K10 Soffit Board is a premium performance rigid phenolic insulation board, designed for use under structural ceilings (soffits) The lightweight product achieves a thermal conductivity as low as 0.021 W/m.K and addresses the stringent safety requirements of a public building with a Class O / Low Risk fire rated insulation core and negligible smoke obscuration. The product is also unaffected by air movement and is resistant to the passage of water vapour.

Kingspan Styrozone high performance rigid extruded polystyrene insulation for inverted roofs and Kingspan Thermawall TW55 high performance rigid urethane insulation for timber and steel framing systems, were also used on the new HQ, which will be a base for around 1,600 staff.

Kingspan Insulation offers an extensive range of insulation solutions for both new build and refurbishment projects. Specifiers, stockists and contractors are supported with a comprehensive and free technical advisory service.
